Eastern Shore Field Trip October 16

Mark your calendar!  Matt Anthony will lead us at several sites on the Eastern Shore.  Details haven’t been set yet, but I expect the itinerary will be similar to what the Club did in October 2019 – overlook, ESVANWR, Kiptopeke.  Start time to be decided, but 9 a.m. at ESVANWR visitor center might be appropriate.  All that fresh air should make us hungry, so a lunch stop is in order.

For this trip, car pools from the usual meeting spot at Colony Square Shopping Center would be beneficial.  However, it will be up to the driver to decide on vaccination/masking protocol for passengers.  To avoid a possible mismatch between willing drivers and interested passengers on the day of the field trip, please let me, George Martin,  know at grm0803@gmail.com who might be willing to drive and who would be interested in riding.  And of course you’re free to arrange your own transportation groups.

Field Trip to Newport News Park September 18

Jason Strickland will lead us around Newport News Park on Saturday, September 18.  We’ll meet at 8 a.m. in the parking lot near the ranger station (left turn off the entrance road).  No car pooling arranged – it’s a fairly short trip.

April 17: Field Trip to Newport News Park for Club Members Only

On Saturday, April 17, Jason Strickland will lead a trip at Newport News Park. We’ll meet him near the ranger station at 7 a.m. Migration should be progressing well then, and I expect we’ll spend most of the morning at the park.

The group is limited to 25 people, per guidance from the Club’s Board – that’s Jason plus 24 club members. If you would like to participate in the field trip, please email George Martin at grm0803@gmail.com. I’ll advise if you are on the attendee list, or whether you are on the wait list. The Board also specifies that participants should wear masks, should stay 6 feet apart, and should not share optics or books.

Also, there will be no organized carpooling/meeting place for this field trip. It’s OK for people to travel together, as long as the driver agrees and the driver and riders are fully vaccinated. The park isn’t far away, and parking there should be ample.
