Meeting: Colonial Waterbird Conservation in the Hampton Roads

Sarah Karpanty, a Professor in the Department of Fish and Wildlife Conservation at Virginia Tech, will share insights on “Colonial Waterbird Conservation in the Hampton Roads”. Join us to learn about the collaborative research and monitoring work conducted since 2018 related to the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel seabird conservation effort. Sarah will share a brief recap of the events that led to the temporary relocation of Virginia’s largest seabird colony in 2020; updates on how the colony has been faring since 2020 in terms of bird counts, reproduction, and survival; and a look ahead towards the construction of a new bird island in the region for these colonial sea birds.
