Bird Walk at New Quarter Park, 4/22/2023

It was a beautiful morning for our monthly bird walk at New Quarter Park! We were joined by members of the Middle Peninsula Bird Club. We saw 43 species of birds! Many of our summer residents have arrived. We saw or heard several Yellow-Throated Warblers, Blue-Gray Gnatcatchers, Northern Parulas, ovenbirds and a Summer Tanager. The ospreys are nesting on the platform by the Queens Lake Marina and one was sitting on the nest. We also got a great look at a very cooperative Great Egret! We were done with the walk before the storms moved in. It was great having the Middle Peninsula Bird club join usI Hope to join them someday for a bird walk on the Middle peninsula.

Bird Walk at Warhill Sports Complex, 3/25/2023

We had seventeen people come out on a cool foggy morning to the Warhill Sports Complex for our March 25 bird walk. We saw 42 species of birds! The Ospreys are back and starting to build a nest on the light poles overlooking a soccer field. Other spring migrants are starting to arrive as we heard a Yellow-
throated Warbler and a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher! Many of our winter visitors were still here as we saw a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, several Dark-eyed Juncos, and Yellow-rumped Warblers and heard a Pine Siskin. Many of our permanent residents also made an appearance. We saw quite a few Northern Mockingbirds that were singing away. It ended up being a great morning for the walk and quite a few birds were seen and heard. \

Bird Walk at New Quarter Park, 2/25/2023

We had a crisp but nice morning for our forth Saturday bird walk at New Quarter Park. The rain held off until the walk was over! We had around 18 people attend. Several joining us were from the Cape Henry Audubon Society. We saw 47 species of birds! Several highlights were a pair of Greater yellowlegs in the marsh by the dock, several Common Goldeneye ducks and every species of woodpeckers normally found in our area this time of year! It was great having several members of the Cape Henry Audubon Society join us and lend us there expertise!

We had a great turn out for our monthly bird walk at New Quarter Park! We had seventeen people come out and we saw 29 species of birds. We saw two Brown Pelicans on the poles in Queens Creek by the marina.  That is a first for me at New Quarter Park! Many of our woodpeckers made a showing this morning, including a Red Headed Woodpecker and quite a few Red Bellied Woodpeckers. We saw some of our winter visitors such as Yellow Rumped Warblers, Yellow Bellied Sapsuckers and a Hermit Thrush. There also was a large group of Turkey and Black Vultures circling around. It was a beautiful, but chilly winter morning for the walk.

Owl Prowl at New Quarter Park, 10/21/2023

The owl prowl held at New Quarter Park  went well! We had around 20 people in attendance. It was a beautiful  clear, crisp winter evening with the stars shining brightly! Unfortunately, we did not hear or see any owls. We did here tundra swans calling out on Queens Creek and the York River. We also woke up a sleeping cardinal who was not very happy to be awakened  by us! We did not see or hear any foxes, coyotes, raccoons or deer. It was a quiet night in the park. Despite not finding any owls, everyone seemed to enjoy the nighttime stroll in the park.
