  • Ruby-throated Hummingbirds

The hummingbirds in Williamsburg are almost all Ruby-throated Hummingbirds. The best nectar recipe is 1/4 cup sugar to 1 cup water. NO red dye. Be sure to change the nectar every couple days, if not more often. Photo by Bill Williams.

(The destination for the May field trip has been changed to Bassett Hall in Williamsburg).

With Nancy Barnhart as our leader, we’ll make our way first to the Park’s 42nd St. access entrance where a nearby elevated walkway provides treetop birding for good looks at warblers, vireos and other neotropical migrants. We may visit other nearby Park sites such as The Wetlands or Pony Pasture. Here’s a link to the web site: http://www.jamesriverpark.org/visit-the-park/getting-there.php

Meet at Colony Square Shopping Center by 7:00 am. We will leave promptly at 7:00 am and will return to Colony Square around 1:00 pm that afternoon. Again, no need to sign up for this trip. It’s free and open to the public—but carpooling is definitely recommended.
