Bird Walk at New Quarter Park, December 24, 2011

Fourteen merry birders enjoyed a calm and very birdy morning at New Quarter Park today (24 Dec 2011). Our merry band spotted 39 species of birds and "slammed" the woodpeckers. Our chief elf this morning, Bill Williams, submitted the list to eBird and it is shown below.

Here is a photo of our group -- Santa had not arrived yet -- and our group patiently posed for a photo while waiting for the jolly old man.
Seated, left to right: Joyce Lowry, Susan Nordholm, Joanne Andrews, Cynthia Long, George Boyles, Shirley Devan
Standing, left to right: Alan Bragg, John Adair, Marilyn Adair, Jeanette Navia, Bill Williams, Virginia Boyles
Not pictured: Margaret Ware and Bob Long.

Also observed this morning, two raccoons asleep in their usual lair -- the hole in the "raccoon tree." Here is a photo I took -- not great, but you can tell they are fuzzy! Two of the four ears are visible.
Remember to join us New Year's Day at 1 pm for the "Boardwalk Bird Show" at Greensprings Trail. Look for us on the old board walk over the swamp (not the new Capital Trail).
